Publishers

Before the turn of the century publishers used to pretend to read all submitted manuscripts from would be ‘famous authors’ but since the turn of the century they openly admit they don’t read any. They have to have a good reason to publish such as you are already a famous author or you have a mum or dad who is. You can’t blame them for this because they need a good return on their investments and the general public do tend to return to authors they know and like.

We often hear of authors who make it under their own steam but if publishers and their agents do not read the works of unknown authors how can they make it under their own steam. The bottom line is contacts; somehow writers have to get the weight of publishers behind them and really it’s all about who you know.
